7 Things To Do When...

Your husband is out on a date, and your boyfriend is at work. What’s a girl to do?

For many women, a truly free day (or night) is like spotting the Loch Ness Monster—it’s a rare to non-existent occurrence. Such a thing doesn’t exist when there are dishes to be washed, laundry to be folded, and a hubby who wants you to sew close a hole in his favorite trousers, and a beau who has been begging you all week to bake his favorite cookies, and the kids’ bedrooms could use a tidying, and the list goes on and on…
But when a free day does make an appearance, why waste a perfect opportunity on the mundane when you possess a free pass to do whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want? Think about it. No need to compromise, no need to pacify a spouse, no need to entertain a boy toy, and no children to care for… It’s all about you—and more you—and…well, you again.
And you deserve this. You need this. Despite how it might seem, it is not selfish take a day just for you. You will be healthier and happier for it.
The demands of everyday life have a way of piling up and weighing us down, of exhausting and stressing us, which is why it is so important we love and care for ourselves, and to do things that will help bolster our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being. And there are so many wonderful ways we ladies can rejuvenate our bodies, our minds, our hearts, and our souls.

Not sure where to begin? SwingTowns is here to help! Below are seven possibilities meant to inspire you on your special day…

#1. Early Morning Walk. As dawn breaks, head to quiet shoreline where you can walk barefoot in the sand. Watch the sunrise and collect seashells while taking in the soothing hum of breaking waves. No beach? Grab a blanket and head to a park with a lake so you might sit in the grass and enjoy soft sounds of lapping water and early-morning birdsong.
#2. Mid Morning Brunch. Locate a quaint restaurant that serves a champagne brunch to indulge in array of gourmet offerings like freshly baked muffins and croissants, assorted fresh fruit and cheeses and cold meats, made-to-order French crêpes and Belgian waffles, and more. Enjoy a Mimosa, a Bellini, or a Rossini.
#3. Your Easy Day. Perhaps treat yourself to a therapeutic spa day. Too busy to relax, always on the go, your mind won’t stop? Let go of your overstimulation and de-stress in a sensory-limited float pod or float room. The water is set to a receptor-neutral temperature, which means you should not be able to tell where your skin ends and the water begins. For those who do not enjoy floating, some spa establishments feature dry salt rooms, offering you a chance benefit from an environment of a salt cave without having to travel far. Pamper yourself by completing your respite with a hot stone massage and/or body wrap.
#4. A Relaxing Afternoon. Love books and hot beverages? Take a classic read as your companion for afternoon tea. Dickens or Austen, Orwell or Woolf, Lewis or Tolkien—tearooms (original meaning here, not the slang) are wonderful places to relax while partaking in a cherished British tradition. Ask for a table in a quiet corner and enjoy a light repast of savory sandwiches and small cakes while drinking a cup of hot tea.
#5. The Creative Evening. Do you like to paint on canvas or pottery? Do you like to drink wine? Why not combine the two! Having a glass of wine while exploring your artistic side is a wonderful way to unwind. If you do not have the supplies at home, search for locations in your area that offer this relaxing activity for a nominal fee.
#6. Fun Night Out. Be your own date and take yourself out for a night on the town. Put on your little black dress and splurge on a fine-dining experience at that trendy restaurant you always wanted to try before treating yourself to after-dinner drinks at a jazz club. Haven’t seen your girlfriends in a while? Have your girls meet up with you at a martini bar for tapas and cocktails before hitting up a casino for some fun. Want something a little more low-key? Reconnect with an old lover over fine spirits and good cigars at an exclusive cigar lounge.
#7. After Hours Rest. Set the mood for relaxation at home with sexy romance novel and a candlelit bubble bath. Afterwards, don your nightie, grab your laptop, and crawl into a soft, warm bed for some online shopping. Not in the mood to shop? Meet new people on SwingTowns, peruse profiles, and make a connection with those currently online. When your eyes grow heavy, fall asleep to your favorite chick flick.
